There’s something happening in women’s cycling.
Across South Africa, more women are getting on bikes, entering races, joining riding groups and, perhaps most importantly, discovering that they are capable of far more than they thought.
With the Tour de Femme currently underway, that movement feels particularly exciting. Women’s cycling is no longer simply about finding a place in a traditionally male-dominated sport. Women are creating their own spaces, their own races and their own communities — and that is opening the door for so many more riders to give it a go.
And we think that deserves celebrating.
For many women, the biggest barrier isn’t fitness.
It’s confidence.
The thought of joining a group ride when you’re worried you’ll be the slowest. Riding a technical section when you’re not quite sure which line to take. Getting onto a mountain bike and wondering what on earth you’re supposed to do when the trail suddenly points downhill.
We’ve all been there.
That’s why riding with a supportive group can make such a difference.
There’s something incredibly empowering about riding alongside other women who understand that sometimes you need to stop, laugh, catch your breath, try again — and then realise you’ve just ridden something that scared you five minutes earlier.
Confidence doesn’t arrive before you ride. It comes from riding.

One of the things we love most about the Lowveld is the variety of riding on offer.
You don’t need to be an experienced mountain biker to enjoy our trails. There are routes and terrain to suit different abilities, whether you’re taking your first tentative steps onto single track or you’re looking for something that will properly test your legs and technical skills.
And somewhere along the way, something changes.
That section of trail that once looked intimidating becomes a challenge you’re excited to tackle.
You stop staring at the rocks and start looking for your line.
You learn to relax your hands, trust your bike and let it roll.
You climb a little further.
You descend a little faster.
And suddenly you’re not worrying about whether you can ride the trail.
You’re wondering what trail you can ride next.
The growth of women’s-only races and events is another hugely positive step.
Creating a space where women can race alongside women of similar experience and ability can make that first step into racing feel much less daunting.
It gives riders the chance to test themselves without feeling like they have to prove they belong.
And once you’ve experienced that feeling — standing on a start line, surrounded by women who are there for exactly the same reason — it’s difficult not to want more.
More riding.
More challenges.
More adventures.
More kilometres.
And maybe, just maybe, a little more speed.
At White River Trails, we believe there’s a rider in everyone.
You might arrive feeling a little nervous about your ability to handle the trails. You might think you’re “not really a mountain biker”. You might be coming back to cycling after years away.
That’s okay.
We’ll meet you where you are.
We’ll help you build your skills, find your confidence and discover the incredible feeling of riding a trail that once seemed completely beyond you.
Because mountain biking isn’t just about how fast you ride or how difficult a trail you can conquer.
It’s about the freedom of being outside.
The friendships made along the way.
The laughter when someone takes the wrong line.
The high-five at the top of a climb.
The feeling of discovering that you’re stronger, braver and more capable than you gave yourself credit for.
So come ride the Lowveld with us.
Bring the bike. Bring a friend. Bring the nerves.
We’ll bring the trails, the support and plenty of reasons to smile.
You might arrive wondering what you’re capable of.
You might leave wondering why you didn’t start sooner.
Explore our upcoming riding weekends and come discover what you’re capable of on the trails of the Lowveld.
